Aiport Security

Please note:
Since 6th November 2006, new EU security regulations have been in effect at airports with regards to taking liquids in hand luggage (see diagram).

Governed by legal worldwide regulations, the security checks of all passengers and their hand luggage and suitcases are conducted by trained staff using state-of-the-art equipment. To ensure this runs smoothly, we ask you to bear in mind the following:

New security regulations for hand luggage.

As a medium-size international passenger terminal, Erfurt-Weimar Airport is excellently laid out and therefore provides a high degree of security. Our customer service staff are happy to answer your questions and to take suggestions onboard. Please have boarding passes and, if necessary, identification papers ready upon entering the security area.

You should arrive at the check-in desk as early as possible and limit the number of pieces of hand luggage to one piece, in order to help you get through control and onto your flight in good time. Hand luggage, jackets, coats and all other loose items such as lighters, keys, wallets, pens, mobile phones or similar must be put through the X-ray machine. Trays will be provided.

These machines are safe for conventional cameras, films and laptops. Manual checks are only necessary for special equipment.

A metal detector gate is used to scan passengers. As passengers walk through, the machine detects any metal items they may be carrying. The control staff will only use a manual detector if the alarm sounds.

Although there is no proven damage caused by the detector gates, persons with pacemakers are permitted to bypass them.

Items posing a danger, or which may be mistaken for being dangerous, fall under the regulations for dangerous goods and may not be carried, for example:

  • All types of firearms and ammunition
  • All types of explosives
  • Pointed or bladed items
  • Explosive devices
  • Flammable liquids or solids
  • Gas containers
  • Oxidisers
  • Poisons
  • Insecticides
  • Acids
  • Alkalis
  • Radioactive substances
  • Pathogenic substances
  • Replica items, which may have the appearance of a firearm or of an explosive device

However, some of these items may be taken in checked luggage. If in doubt, contact the airline in due time.

In light of recent events, security checks have been tightened. Therefore the following items may no longer be carried in hand luggage and must be placed in checked luggage:

  • Liquids and beverages, if more than the amount permitted in hand luggage (see diagram)
  • Knives and scissors of all sizes
  • Tools
  • Golf equipment
  • Sports rackets or bats
  • Cutlery

Please be aware that further security regulations may apply on flights with Israeli, American or British airlines.

Finally, we would like to request that you keep your luggage with you at all times in order to prevent anyone from smuggling dangerous or prohibited items into your luggage. It is also strongly advised that you do not carry luggage on a stranger’s behalf.
